Background Notes

October has traditionally been considered the month of the Rosary. October 7 is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. This prayer celebration focuses on the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary. You may want to emphasize to participants that although the Rosary is an intercessory form of prayer wherein Mary intercedes on our behalf, we recall through these mysteries the story of our salvation in Jesus Christ. We pray with Mary and the whole Church that the work of salvation will continue.


"Mary: Woman of Glory" – Prayer Celebration Notes

Focus		Praying to be as joyful and responsive as Mary
Materials		Prayer table, Bible and candle, flowers, rosaries, a picture or statue of Mary, music
Reading		Luke 1:46-55
Music		Blest Are We CD 7-8; "Hail Mary: Gentle Woman," Carey Landry (OCP Publications); "Hail Holy Queen," (Salve Regina Coelitum)
Preparation		Study with your group the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary (Resurrection of Jesus, Ascension of Jesus into Heaven, Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles (Pentecost), Assumption of Mary into Heaven, Crowning of Mary as Queen of Heaven). Assign five participants to prepare a short reflection about each of the mysteries. You will also need to assign a leader, a Scripture reader, and groups for the antiphonal reading of the Magnificat. Print out and provide copies of liturgy, "Mary: Woman of Glory" for each participant.
Adaptation		If the weather is suitable, consider holding the prayer celebration outside. Invite family members.
