Lenten Recollection

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and continues for forty days until Holy Thursday when the Easter Triduum begins. During Lent God calls us to look more intently at our lives, repent of our sins, and offer personal sacrifices of alms, prayer, and fasting as penance for our sins. These forty days are preparation for the new life of Easter.


"Servants of Christ" Prayer Celebration Notes

Focus		Following Jesus’ example to serve others
Materials		Prayer table, Bible, candle, large bowl with water, towels, music
Reading		John 13:1-9; Isaiah 42:1-7,9

Preparation		Discuss the event of Jesus’ washing his disciples’ feet at the Last Supper. Be sure your group understands that the disciples wore sandals and walked on dirt roads. Let participants decide if they would be comfortable doing a foot washing during their celebration or, if they prefer, hand washing. Assign a leader, reader, and groups for antiphonal reading. Print out and make copies of "Servants of Christ" Liturgy for participants.
Adaptation		You may do the washing or have participants do so. If they are self-conscious, you might have a young person pour the water onto hands or feet, with each participant doing the drying.
