Background Notes

May has traditionally been one of the months set aside for devotion to Mary. Many communities celebrate a May crowning of Mary’s statue and other devotions in honor of the Mother of God. Mary loved and trusted God. By her 'yes’ she helped fulfill God’s plan of salvation for us. Mary is a model for us to imitate.


"Mother of Jesus" Prayer Celebration Notes

Focus		Remembering Mary’s "yes" to God
Materials Needed		Prayer table, Bible, candle, statue or picture of Mary, music, blue fabric

Preparation		Before the prayer celebration, print out and photocopy the liturgy, "Mother of Jesus," for each child. Cover the prayer table with blue fabric. Select a petition reader. Prepare your role as Leader. Practice the Spanish responses with children.
Adaptations		May is the month in which to remember and honor mothers. If you plan this liturgy for May, children could invite their mothers or other significant women in their lives to the prayer celebration.
