GATHERING PRAYER

Leader St. Nicholas was a bishop who lived hundreds of years ago. He was generous and kind. Today we remember how he was a shepherd to his people and taught them how to show love for God. We celebrate his feast day on December 6. (Light the Advent wreath. As children gather have them bless themselves with holy water.)

All In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

READING
(based on Ezekiel 34:11-15)

Leader Listen to a reading from the prophet Ezekiel in the Bible. "God said, 'I will tend my sheep. I will rescue them when they get lost. I will bring them to a good field where green grass grows and a clear stream flows. I will care for my sheep,' said God. 'I will do it myself.' "

RESPONSE
image
(Distribute copies of the sheep activity sheet, safety scissors, and crayons or markers. Invite each child to cut on the heavy black border around the sheep.)
Leader We have many shepherds to take care of us. Our parents, teachers, and pastors care for us and keep us from harm. Write your name on your sheep. God cares for you as a shepherd cares for his sheep. (Collect and display the sheep in the worship area.)
