Some conflict within families is inevitable. With practice, there are areas of conflict that can be worked out before they become problems. After study of Chapter 14, present the following list to students and invite their responses. Would some of these suggestions work in their own families? What other ways to handle family conflict might they suggest?
Five Ways to Approach Family Conflict
Discuss the problem as soon as you can.
Limit an argument to one issue.
Look for areas of agreement or compromise.
Avoid blaming others.
Avoid exaggerating ("You never let me do anything I want to do!").
