Refer children to the map of Palestine on page 383 in their books. Help them find Bethlehem. Identify it as the place where Jesus was born. Then have them find Nazareth and note that this is where Jesus grew up. Finally, point out Jerusalem as the place where Jesus and his family traveled three times a year for special Jewish feasts at the Temple. Share that during Jesus' time people traveled by donkey or walked. It would take many days to travel between Nazareth and Jerusalem. The distance between the two places is about 65 miles.
Help children figure out about how far it is from their house to church. Have children share the different ways they get to church walking, riding in a car or bus.
