Being part of a church community involves getting to know others who are also a part of that community. On a chalkboard list leaders within your parish, such as pastor, associate pastor, deacon, organist, school principal, teacher, and director of religious education. Ask children to name those they already know. Write those names next to their roles. Identify those on your list with whom children are not familiar. Have children name others they know who are involved in parish work and help them to understand their roles. If possible, invite one or more parish leaders to visit with your class to talk about their parish involvement. If your school involves children from more than one parish, provide a chart of each with the parish name above. Discuss how all parishes are parts of a single Church community. |
