LITURGY AND CATECHESIS

Coordinate efforts with your parish catechetical leader and catechists to find appropriate times during parish celebrations to use psalms, hymns, and songs such as those from the Blest Are We Song Book during parish celebrations. This will help link the music learned in the religion program to the liturgical life of the parish community.

If possible, have a young person play a selected song on the piano or another instrument during a liturgy or class session. Many young people are gifted musically and this provides them an opportunity to share their gifts in a community setting.
PLANNING AHEAD

Encourage catechists to incorporate songs into their class sessions. Suggest singing:

| |
before or after opening prayer
| |
during a prayer celebration
| |
at the end of a session
| |
during special celebrations

Suggest use of instrumental music:

| |
as young people enter the room
| |
during opening prayer
| |
as background music during independent work time
| |
during the meditation time of a prayer celebration
