In this letter, James goes on to talk about envy and selfishness, traits that so easily appear in human nature. To give in to them is to allow for disorder and wickedness; to rise above them is to bring about righteousness and peace.
To be saintly, is a challenge. It is so easy to succumb to traits that work against saintliness. Young people are just at the point of finding an identity and developing a personality. They need all the guidance and patience available to help them develop in ways of wisdom rather than wickedness; righteousness rather than disorder. Peer pressure can limit their ability to think clearly.
- Be willing to listen to the concerns of the young people in your care.
- Pray with them for calmness and clear thinking.
- Be present with them.
