CHRISTMAS MIDNIGHT
Isaiah 9:24, 67

Isaiahs prophecy may have referred to Hezekiah or another future king. Yet, Christians recognize how perfectly Jesus Christ fulfills this prophecy. We are given a "Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace." At this season, we are reminded of this gift so that we may not take it for granted, or lapse in our responsibilities.

Luke 2:114

The proclamation of this significant text assures us of the arrival of the Messiah for whom humanity has been waiting. It is beautiful in its simplicity, and meaningful in its complexity. A savior arrives, not in powerful majesty, but as a child in poverty. It occurs under the rule of Caesar Augustus, a peaceful leader, suggesting a connection between this child and a far-reaching peace. His family is denied housing, connecting him to all those found unacceptable. The angels announcement first to shepherds, the lowest of the low, accents the love Jesus has for the poor and lowly. These are powerful images to be shared among the parish community on this day.
