"Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?"
Luke 24:32
Luke often described faith as seeing anew. In his postResurrection story, the disciples "see" the risen Christ with eyes of faith. Upon reflection they note that their "hearts were burning" within when they were in dialogue with Jesuswhen he was breaking open the Word.
Faith is like a lens by which we see things in ways permeated with the presence of God. We see many situations in the world as tragic confrontations which must be resolved peacefully. Seeing with the eyes of faith leads us to act in a way that brings about the reign of God. The disciples recognized Jesus in the breaking of the bread and then they continued their journey back to Jerusalem to spread the Good News. How do we spread the Good News? What is different in our lives because we see with the eyes of faith?
