A Litany to Mary, Our Model of Peace

Response: Mary, help us become peacemakers.

Mary, when God’s messenger asked you to bear God’s son, your Magnificat of praise to God sought justice for the poor and oppressed. R.

Although concerned about Joseph’s reaction to your untimely pregnancy, you did not fear violence. R.

You traveled to help your elderly cousin, Elizabeth, remain peaceful during her pregnancy. R.

Mary, when Herod tried to kill your infant son and your family had to flee, you did not seek revenge. R.

During Jesus’ ministry, when his neighbors threw him out of Nazareth, you remained peaceful and trusted in God. R.

As a disciple, Mary, you listened to Jesus’ words of peace and lived them. R.

Even when Jesus was crucified, Mary, you forgave those who killed him. R.

You patiently waited with the other disciples for the gift of the Spirit. R.

O Mary, guide us in the ways of peace and justice. As peacemakers we want to help our troubled world. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
