Advent

Celebration of Advent Reconciliation
The word Advent means "coming." During the season of Advent, we prepare our hearts once again for the arrival of Jesus. The following prayer celebration is penitential in nature. Use this liturgy as a non-sacramental opportunity to deepen awareness of the need for healing and forgiveness.

See Liturgical Calendar–Seasons–Advent for additional background information and prayer.

Preparation Before the celebration, read Micah 6:1-8 and discuss with your group what it means "to do what is right," "to love goodness," and "to walk humbly with God." Invite participants to write a brief reflection of their thoughts in response to the Scripture. Select several reflections to be read during the prayer celebration. You will also need to assign groups for the antiphonal reading. Print out and photocopy liturgy, "Walking Humbly with God."

Adaptation Form two or more groups and have each group make a poster that represents ways in which to do what is right, love goodness, and walk humbly with God. Use the posters to decorate for the prayer celebration.
