Mary in Fall

Celebrating Mary in Fall
October has traditionally been considered the month of the Rosary. October 7 is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. We honor Mary, the Mother of God, in various ways because we see in her a wonderful combination of faith, obedience, and love for God. She united the joy of a mother with the honor of a virgin. This prayer celebration focuses on Mary as a woman truly graced by God.

"Mary, God’s Friend" – Prayer Celebration Notes

Focus Appreciating God’s friendship, as Mary did

Materials Needed

Prayer table with Bible and candle, and music

Reading

Luke 2:15-19

Music "I Say 'Yes' Lord,/Digo 'Sí,' Señor" Blest Are We Music CD 6; "Mary's Joy," Christopher Uehleim, OSB; "Salva Regina," Chant

Preparation Read Luke 2:15-19 and discuss together the meaning of Luke 2:19, in which Mary remembers what the shepherds told her and reflects on it. Ask, "What does it mean to reflect? How can we begin to appreciate God’s friendship as Mary did?" Photocopy or print out both sides of the liturgy page. Select 5 readers. Practice your role as leader.

Adaptation Allow the group some quiet time with Jesus after the reading during the prayer celebration. You may play soothing music, but this period of meditation should not be longer than two or three minutes.
