GATHERING SONG
image
Leader We prepare to open our hearts to Jesus in a special way as his birthday comes near. We remember saints and other holy people who have opened their hearts to others living as Jesus did.
image
As we light the candle(s) on our Advent wreath, we are encouraged to prepare for Jesus’ coming.
image
(Light the Advent wreath.)

READING
image
Leader Listen to these words from the Bible. "Let us love one another. For love is of God. Whoever is without love does not know God. God is love. No one has ever seen God. But if we love one another, God remains in us."
(based on 1 John 4:7–12)

RESPONSE Thanks be to God.
image
(Discuss with children ways to show love for others. They can share the messages shown by their drawings.)

QUIET PRAYER
image
Leader Let us talk with Jesus in the quiet of our hearts about helping others. Ask Jesus how you can show love for someone, especially someone you do not really like.
image
(Pause for several moments.)

CLOSING PRAYER
image
Leader Let us pray. Lord, help us to be kind and loving like Mother Teresa. Help us to be generous as St. Nicholas was. Help us to see that by giving to others we are being good followers of your message. Thank you for being close to us as we prepare to celebrate Jesus’ birthday.

All Amen.
