Background Notes

Throughout history there have always been people who model Jesus through their works and words. These are justice seekers and peacemakers. Jesus taught us the importance of loving others as we love ourselves; therefore, issues of justice are central for Christians. Working for justice includes respecting the rights of others, excluding no one, and learning to resolve disagreements in ways that honor and respect the needs of all. This prayer celebration focuses on the needs of others to which justice demands response.



"Being Peacemakers" Prayer Celebration Notes

Preparation		Before the prayer celebration, print out and photocopy the liturgy, "Being Peacemakers," for each participant. Divide a sheet of construction paper into 4 strips. On each, write or have children write a word such as: peace, joy, sharing, justice, hope, respect, love. Children are to present these strips of paper during the prayer celebration for you to staple together creating a peace chain. Practice your role as leader. Practice signing "Thank you, God" using the printout available in "Materials," above.
Adaptation		Have participants role-play peacemaking situations (e.g., sharing toys, taking turns)
