All Saints Day Celebration
image
The Feast of All Saints reminds us that holy people have lived lives based on the values of the Gospel. By imitating their lives, we, too, can live as holy followers of Jesus. Knowing that we can turn to the lives of the saints for encouragement and example can help us remain faithful to our baptismal promises. In looking at how the saints lived the Christian life, children can discover their own unique way of living out the Gospel in their lives.

Preparation Before the prayer celebration, send a note home with the children, requesting that they come to the prayer celebration costumed as saints. (See BLEST ARE WE Catechist or Teacher Guide K, "We Celebrate All Saints.") Print out and make copies of the saints activity page. Practice the role of leader for the prayer celebration. Children will not need copies of the liturgy. Write their responses on the chalkboard in advance, or say the response and have them repeat it with you.

Discuss with the children the names and stories of some of the more well-known saints. Write these names on the chalkboard. Have the children write the name of a saint in each crown on the activity page (not necessarily the one they dress as). Use the activity pages to decorate the prayer space.

Adaptation If you are unable to have a costumed procession, have each child during the liturgy bring up the page they decorated and name the saint or saints they identified. Follow each with the response, "Pray for us."
