In this mission, the life of Jesus Christ serves as our model. Jesus acknowledged the dignity of each person as a unique creation of God. He not only recognized God as the source of creation, but incarnated his beliefs by treating all people with respect. An attitude of service is a countercultural one; yet as disciples (and perhaps, as prophets) we are challenged to give witness in our society to the Gospel message. For a Christian, being a person of service is not an option. We are all called to work in the vineyard. The everyday tasks of our lives become the marketplace in which the Christ in us continues to proclaim and live the Beatitudes. Moving beyond simply helping the less fortunate, the next step in the process is to establish solidarity with them, based on our common origin and our nature as humans. As a community, Christians must recognize the need to participate with all of our sisters and brothers in building the Kingdom.
