Advent

Jesus, come to us each day. Help us prepare to welcome you as our King in the fullness of God's kingdom. Help us to recognize you in one another. Amen.Three Comings of Jesus
Advent is the time when the Church helps us prepare to remember, celebrate, and look forward to Jesus’ comings in history, mystery, and majesty.

The Church sets aside four weeks for us to prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus. At Christmas we recall that Jesus was born to Mary. We know he grew up in Nazareth and became a carpenter, a teacher, and a preacher. Our faith tells us that he is the Promised One, the Messiah, who came to conquer sin and death.

Jesus Christ also comes to us each day. He has come, and continues to come in mystery because he is always with us. We can meet Christ in prayer, in the sacraments, in the Gospels, in our family and friends, and in all those who show generosity. We also recognize Jesus in the needs of the poor, the ill, and those without hope.

Jesus will come to us again in glory. Before going to heaven, Jesus promised to return as our King. During Advent we remember this promise to bring us to a place of peace, justice, and joy. We anticipate the coming of Jesus in majesty, as our Lord and King.

Family Activity

Work together to make Ojos de Dios (eyes of God). This is a traditional symbol of Mexican Indians. It reminds us that God is always with us, watching over us.
To make a symbol, you will need two sticks of the same size, different colors of yarn, and scissors.
Tie the sticks or twigs together with yarn to form a cross. Using the same yarn, begin wrapping one arm of the Ojos de Dios by going under and around. Moving counterclockwise, wrap the next arm in the same way.
Colors can be changed at any time during the process by tying the new piece of yarn to the end of the old. Hang your Ojos de Dios in a special place.
