Grade Level Activity & Answer Key Feasts & Seasons Grade Level Resources

The season of Advent ushers in the new liturgical year and brings with it the blending of two spirits: a spirit of penance and a spirit of anticipation. During Advent we prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus in majesty through good deeds and more fervent prayer. At the same time, we also expect and anticipate his coming in glory to be the fulfillment of Gods kingdom, and so we celebrate with a spirit that is hopeful and longing for our Lord and King.
Probably the most well known Advent custom is the Advent wreath.
Its circular shape symbolizes that in God there is no beginning or end.
The greens that often decorate the wreath are a sign of hope and life, especially of everlasting life.
The four candles represent the thousands of years that people waited for the coming of the Savior, and mark each of the four Sundays in Advent.
