Holy people reflect for us the love and compassion of Jesus. Think about holy people you know personally and admire. How do they radiate the goodness and compassion of Christ? They may in extraordinary situations respond with amazing generosity of spirit.
Most often we see the goodness of God shining through holy people in simple, everyday actions. We see it in the way they make time even for those people who annoy them. It is apparent in the kindness by which they deflect cutting words. We see it in the way that they soothe anger with sympathetic understanding, and in the strength with which they stand up for someone wronged. We see it in the cheerfulness with which they accept themselves and their own shortcomings, and the earnestness with which they tank God for life's gifts. For these people who care deeply about others with the love and compassion that flows from God's heart, let us give thanks, because they model for us what it means to be holy.

Think of a family project in which you could work in your parish or community to help others. For example, it could be through collecting items that are needed for a food bank, homeless shelter, nursing home, or assisted living home.

 |
Plan your project together and how you would go about completing it; a time frame, a goal of materials to collect, a place to share the materials.
