Easter

Risen Jesus, help us share in your new life. Alleluia! Amen. We Celebrate Easter -- The Feast of Easter
Easter celebrates the Christian Passover event, Christ's victory over death and his passage through death to new life. Easter also celebrates a great mystery: We share in Christ's death and Resurrection. Because of him, we, too, experience the joy of resurrection and new life. When we celebrate Easter, we celebrate both Christ's Resurrection and our own. Belief in the Resurrection of Jesus is the very foundation of Christian faith.

This theme introduces your child to the great mystery of Easter by inviting her or him to consider the many "resurrections," the signs of new life that surround us in springtime. Your child hears the Easter story and learns that Jesus not only gave his life for all people but also rose to new life. In simple but dramatic ways, your child is given the opportunity to reflect on and to celebrate an Easter life because of Jesus. Your child responds with a joyful "Alleluia."

Simple things such as bunnies, butterflies, and brightly colored eggs will help your child glimpse signs of the new and abundant life that Easter brings.

Family Activity

Make "Bird Nests Cookies" together to celebrate new life. You will need a 12-ounce bag of milk chocolate chips, 2 cups of chow mein noodles, 2 cups crushed cornflakes, a 7-ounce can of lightly salted peanuts, and jelly beans for topping.

Melt the chocolate in a microwavable bowl at high for 1 1/2 minutes (or 3-4 minutes at 50% power) until softened. Stir ingredients together. Drop by teaspoon onto wax paper. Make a slight dent in the center. Add jelly beans as "eggs" to the "nests." Store in the refrigerator.
