community A community is a group of people who belong together.
Confirmation Confirmation is the sacrament in which the Holy Spirit makes our faith in Jesus Christ stronger.
Creator God made everything in the world. God is our Creator.
crucifix A cross that bears the figure of Jesus is a crucifix.
Easter We celebrate new life with Jesus at Easter.
Easter candle The Easter candle is lit at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. It reminds us that Jesus is the Light of the World.
Eucharist The Eucharist is a special meal that Jesus shares with us today. We receive the Body and Blood of Christ.
faith Our faith helps us believe and trust in God.
forgive To forgive means to excuse or to pardon.
fruits of the Holy Spirit The fruits of the Holy Spirit are signs of the Holy Spirit’s action in our lives. Some fruits are love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, and self-control.
Gloria The Gloria is a prayer of praise to God said and sung at Mass.
good habit A good habit is a way of acting for the good of others.
Gospel The Gospel is the Good News of Jesus. There are four Gospels in the Bible.
grace The gift of grace is God’s loving presence in our lives.
hallowed To be hallowed means to be holy.
Heaven Heaven is happiness with God forever.
holy To be holy is to be like God.
Holy Orders The sacrament of Holy Orders celebrates God’s call to become a deacon, priest, or bishop.
Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. This Spirit helps us follow Jesus.
Holy Trinity The Holy Trinity is one God in three Persons—God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
hymn A hymn is a holy song about what we believe.
Jesus Jesus is the Son of God.
Joseph Joseph is Mary’s husband and the foster father of Jesus.
Last Supper The Last Supper is the special meal that Jesus shared with his friends. Jesus changed bread and wine into his Body and Blood.
Lent We celebrate Lent, forty days of preparation, before Easter.
Lord’s Prayer The Lord’s Prayer is the prayer that Jesus gave us. One time we pray the Lord’s Prayer is during Mass.
Matrimony The sacrament of Matrimony celebrates the love that a man and woman have for each other.
Mary Mary is the mother of Jesus.
Mass The Mass is a special meal the Jesus shares with us.
mercy God’s mercy is his loving forgiveness. We are called to show mercy to others.
mission A mission is a job that needs to be done. Our mission as Christians is to love and serve others.
parish A parish is a community of Jesus’ followers who belong to the same local Catholic church.
peace To be at peace means to get along with others.
Pentecost On Pentecost we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birthday of the Church.
petition Prayers of petition are asking prayers. We ask God to give us the things we need.
praise A prayer of praise celebrates God’s goodness.
prayer Prayer is listening to and talking to God.
presider’s chair The priest who presides at, or celebrates, the Mass sits in the presider’s chair during prayer time after communion.
psalms Psalms are prayers from the Bible that people often sing.
Reconciliation Reconciliation is the sacrament that celebrates God’s forgiveness.
sacraments The sacraments are special signs of Christ’s love and presence.
saint A saint is a special person who lived a holy life. The life of a saint shows us how to follow Jesus.
sanctuary lamp A lighted candle, the sanctuary lamp, shows that the Blessed Sacrament is present in the tabernacle.
Savior The Savior is Jesus, the Son of God. He helps us and saves us.
serve To serve means to help other people.
sin A sin is a choice to do something we know is wrong.
tabernacle A tabernacle is a container in church where the bread of the Eucharist is kept.
Temple The Temple was a special building in Jerusalem. Jesus prayed in the Temple and learned about God.
